*** I empathise with this. When I was a kid, I didn't know the wonders of Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V, and so compared to the torture of typing 'pepperoni pizza' over and over again, 'coinage' was a breeze. I always had enough gold.

This song is my favourite thing about "Uptown Funk". The fact that alongside digging up old disco & funk records for inspiration, someone there was instead listening to this and thought there was something to get from it. I love the fact that Mark Ronson gave Trinidad James a shoutout in his BRIT Award acceptance speech.

They take the best thing from the song (well apart from the fascinating 'GOLE' pronunciation) though. The problem with this is how the song is arranged. It has the hook a few times at the start, an endless verse and then the hook is back at the end. This song goes barely over 3 minutes long, but the iTunes preview manages to cover just about the entire middle verse and none of the hook (don't believe me? J listen). I can't imagine it's a strong selling tactic. Sadly, though he has some amusing lines here and there, it makes the song something of a chore to sift through. 3.2 |
