****** I still remember that rainy Saturday morning I first heard this, where I was disinterested in basically everything. I was listening to the radio when this came on, dismissing it as a fairly disposable hip hop track. I was surprised to learn it was A$AP Rocky at least.

I'll be the first to admit that reviews often count for nothing on this website. It's not so much the number, more just the innate apathy towards matching newly influenced opinions with the previously written reviews. As such, I can often be very wrong, and while I'd often just say at this moment how incredibly out of touch I was, this song made such an impression on me eventually that I can't even imagine how this could have occurred hearing it once on the radio. The post-apocalyptic beat just consumes the headphones, and the irregular rhythms sets the perfect tone for A$AP Rocky to do what he does best. Santigold has never sounded finer, with a perfectly complemented chorus. Each verse just builds and builds ("roger, roger, tell 'em roger that", just flawless!), and the bridge is the pinnacle of it, until that final chorus which every time I get goosebumps.

Long story short I just love it, and it was a shame it took me so long to realise it, even if it needed time to grow on me the way it has. As he says himself, "boy you better pay attention". Last edited: 17.05.2014 15:44 |
